MENTORSHIP SINCE TENURE REVIEW, 2011-2016
For 14 years before I was appointed as a Visiting Assistant Professor in 2004-2005,
I served as an Extended Part-time Instructor at RIT. As a result, I developed a great deal of empathy for faculty who are not tenure track or tenured, and I am committed
to assisting and including these faculty to ensure that they have a good teaching
experience, and to encourage curricular consistency and quality. We meet and email as needed, and I am always there to help them. I am also committed to helping everyone in my department at any time to make our program stronger and more vital.
In addition, I serve on MFA Thesis Committees and as a consultant to internship and
independent study students each semester. This responsibility is in addition to my full-time teaching commitments. I meet with MFA candidates and correspond via email as needed, and I meet with independent study students each week.
Independent Studies and Internships are 3 Credits.

I assisted Ilana with creating a syllabus for her Typography course.

Tony and I met and corresponded via email to create a syllabus and devise
a plan to introduce a Letterpress course.

I am the faculty coordinator for senior level courses for the department, and I meet with adjuncts on a regular basis to discuss ways in which to improve the senior curriculum to be more relevant and consistent for our students.

I corresponded via email and met with Nancy in August to discuss the Typography course and projects. I provided advice for her History of Graphic Design course; to have faculty from various departments and schools visit for a 15 minute presentation at the end of classes. She incorporated this into the course.

Tony and I met and corresponded via email to create a syllabus for
a Letterpress course.

We met during the summer to discuss the senior curriculum and kept in touch through the year.
KELLY MURDOCH-KITT
I suggested to Kelly to add an area on the Graphic Design Blog called “Spotlight”, which would provide bios and information about faculty, alumni and students on
an on-going basis. She implemented this on the blog.
NANCY BERNARDO, HEIDI SCHLEGEL AND MITCH GOLDSTEIN
We met to discuss an idea where various CIAS faculty whose scholarship interests are similar but have a different focus or approach would conduct workshops for students. In addition to providing the opportunity for students to become more familiar with faculty, this would help faculty understand each other better and create a sense
of community in CIAS.

I gave David a comprehensive list of resources and ideas for his Environmental
and Packaging Design courses.
PETE BELLA
I assisted Pete with his MFA thesis for Savannah College of Art, gave him a lead
to contact Chuck Bigelow for an article and wrote numerous recommendations for teaching positions. He accepted a one year teaching position at Shepherd University in West Virginia. I also wrote 3 recommendation letters for him for positions.

I shared my Typography syllabus with her and we discussed project options.

I met with her and Chris Lyons to discuss the new syllabus for Collaborative Design.
SUNYOUNG KIM
I met with Sunyoung twice and reviewed her Graphic Tactics materials several times in preparation for her to teach Graphic Tactics.
PATTI LACHANCE
Patti asked me to review her syllabus for suggestions and feedback. We met to discuss the possibilities of collaborating on a project with our classes, which we did for the final project. The project was called Hidden Spaces.

I met with David on two occasions to discuss content and ideas for the Packaging Design Course and Professional Practices/ Career Skills course and was a guest lecturer in his Packaging Course. I also provided resources for his Environmental Design Course several times.

Pete asked me to serve as his Capstone Advisor for his MS Degree requirements.
I had suggested to him that he try teaching on an adjunct basis and he taught Concept and Symbolism in Fall Quarter 2011 and I provided him with all of my teaching materials for this course. He used this course as the foundation of his Capstone Project.

I met with Bob to discuss the syllabus and objectives for Concept and Symbolism and kept in touch during the quarter.
